We’re proud to celebrate with two of our member companies, Arizona Public Service and Pacific Gas and Electric, for receiving Top Innovative Practice Awards from the Nuclear Energy Institute.
The annual awards program promotes the sharing of fresh ideas and best practices that improve safety, work processes and the competitive position of the nuclear industry.
APS employees received the nuclear industry’s highest recognition for a strategic modernization project that upgraded the control element drive motor control system and motor generator sets at the Palo Verde Generating Station. The upgrade has improved plant reliability, safety, and efficiency at the nation’s largest power producer – all of it clean and carbon-free. This is the 14th Top Innovative Practice Award that Palo Verde employees have received since NEI began the program in 2009.
PG&E employees were recognized for an impressive pivot from planning to decommission the Diablo Canyon Power Plant to taking steps to extend the station’s operating life to support California's electrical reliability needs. Continuing to operate Diablo Canyon for an additional five years beyond its current license would improve statewide energy system reliability and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while additional renewable energy and carbon-free resources come online. This is the 3rd Top Innovative Practice Award that Diablo Canyon employees have received from NEI.
