Richard began his nuclear power career by entering the US Navy in July 1983 where he served on various fast-attack submarines and shore duty assignments for 20 years, retiring as a Master Chief Machinist’s Mate in September 2003. Following the Navy, he worked outside the nuclear industry as a project manager at a fire and water restoration company in St. Louis MO until August 2007. Richard was then hired by Ameren at the Callaway Energy Center in September 2007, entering initial license training as a direct senior reactor operator, obtaining his SRO license in December 2009. He has served in various roles at Callaway including operations supervisor, operations training instructor, shift manager, operations manager and nuclear corporate oversight evaluator. His most recent assignment prior to STARS was as an operations evaluator at the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) where he conducted several crew performance evaluations, peer reviews and evolution observations. Richard has a BS Applied Science and Technology degree from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton NJ with a major in Nuclear Engineering Technology. AS General Studies from City University in Bellevue WA. When Richard is away from work he enjoys traveling the US with family in an RV travel trailer, hiking, fishing.
